Two LPG tankers attacked by drones Mon Aug 03 11:58:35 CEST 2026 Timsen The LPG tanker 'Gas Aura' was struck by a drone near Kavkaz, Russia, on July 15, 2026, injuring two Filipino crew members. They were transferred onto the 'Gas Nero'. On July 16, the 'Gas Nero' safely transferred the injured seafarers to a Turkish Coast Guard helicopter off Sinop. After completing the medical evacuation, the 'Gas Nero' resumed its voyage through the Black Sea, but was then herself hit by a drone that triggered fire in one of the forward tanks. The tanker requested assistance, and a firefighting tug was dispatched under the coordination of Turkey's Samsun Port Authority. The fire was completely brought under control and extinguished thanks to the timely intervention of the tug. Following the incident, the tanker was directed at a shipyard off Sürmene, Trabzon, for maintenance and repairs. After its arrival on July 17, it was awaiting the start of the repair works, once the preparations for entry into the shipyard were completed. The goal was for the tanker to return to service safely after the maintenance and repair work to be carried out at the Trabzon Shipyard.
